Murmur was a public art installation drawing on local culture, individual stories and their relationship to place.

Consisting of a large field of furrowed soil leading to the entrance of a shotgun style house, Murmur was located inside a vacant historic store front in Sumter, SC.

Visitors walk a narrow path through the furrowed field of soil to reach the entrance, while transparent mylar panels frame the interior and exterior walls of the house. The opaque panels slightly sway with the air and passing of bodies as their shadows create a constant stream of moving gestures.

The vibration of railroad tracks mixed with local sounds of birds and stories told by the artist's grandmother fill the space. Life size charcoal drawings hang in each room of the house.
